Tyrannosaurus Information

Translation: Tyrant lizard king

Diet: Carnivore

Period: Cretaceous

Family: Tyrannosauridae

Height: 20 feet
Length: 40 feet
Weight: 6 tons

Physical Appearance: T. Rex had a huge head with large, pointed, replaceable teeth that were as long as 9 inches. It had a well defined jaw line. It had tiny arms, each with two fingers. Each bird-like foot had three large toes, all equipped with claws. T. rex had a slim, stiff, pointed tail that provided balance and allowed quick turns while running. T. rex's neck was short and muscular. Its body was solidly built but its bones were hollow. T. rex was once the biggest known dinosaur, but a few have been discovered now that are bigger than T. rex such as Giganotosaurus.

Lifestyle: Tyrannosaurus rex was a fierce predator that walked on two powerful legs. Some people call him the king of dinosaurs. T. rex was a relatively smart dinosaur even though it had a small brain compared to it's body size. It's brain had a very large area for processing odors though.

Discovered by: Fossilized specimens of T. rex's rough, scaly skin have been found. It was bumpy, like an alligator's skin. The first Tyrannosaurus rex fossil was discovered by the famous fossil hunter Barnum Brown in 1902.

T-Rex Footprint Cookie

Discuss:

Dinosaur walking on wet mud created footprints. When the mud dried the footprints remained and eventually turned to rock if they were covered by dirt and sand before they washed away. The footprints are exposed in some areas by erosion. Here is a T-Rex fossil footprint...

Materials:

• Potato
• Table knife (dull)
  
• 1 1/2 cup Sugar
  
• 1 cup Butter, softened
  
• 3 cups Flour, All purpose
  
• 1 Egg
  
• 1 tea. Vanilla
  
• ½ tea. Baking Powder
  
• ½ tea. Baking Soda
  
• Extra sugar
  
• Cookie sheet
  

Directions:

1. Cut the potato in half. Draw the outline of a dinosaur's footprint in the potato with a pencil. Cut away the potato from around the footprint with a dull table knife.
2. Heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup softened butter. Beat the sugar butter mixture until light and fluffy. Add 3 cups flour. Mix together thoroughly. Add all other ingredients and mix well. Compact the dough with your hands until it sticks together and forms a single ball.
3. Separate the dough into walnut-sized pieces of dough. Roll the dough into balls and then flatten them so you can stamp the dough. Place some sugar on a plate. Place the dough on both sides on the plate so they are covered with sugar. Press the potato footprint into the dough.
4. Place the cookies on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake your dinosaur cookie footprints at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 9 to 12 minutes. Make sure the bottoms of the cookies are a very light golden brown. If they are not add 1 or 2 extra minutes to the baking time. Cool 1 minute and then remove from the cookie sheets. Now its time to enjoy these delicious cookies.
